Colusa Circle 5K Raises $5K for BOSS

Our second annual Colusa Circle 5k was a huge success! We raised over $5,000 from registrations and donations, all of which goes directly to Berkeley non-profit organization BOSS, “Building Opportunities for Self Sufficiency”. BOSS helps people struggling with homelessness and poverty by providing them with housing, health care, and self-sufficiency. In addition to the race proceeds, we collected over 25 pairs of used running shoes and 60 pairs of new socks for BOSS.

Over 150 participants began the morning with a pre-race warm up led by Fuse Fitness then ran, walked or strolled the 3.1 mile race. McDunn Construction generously sponsored the Berkeley High Jazz Band, who welcomed runners back as they crossed the finish line. Racers then enjoyed post race coffee donated by The Arlington, pastries donated by Semifreddi’s and fire truck tours by the Kensington Fire Department. The event concluded with a raffle including prizes donated by Lift + Sprint, Berkeley Running Company, the Kensington Farmer’s Market, Semifreddi’s, Fuse Fitness and Road Runners Sports.

As a certified B Corp, Zip Code East Bay was also committed to making this event as green as possible. All planning aspects of the race were made with the planet in mind. Racers were encouraged to walk or bike to the event, compostable supplies and materials were used whenever possible, racer goodie bags were eliminated to reduce waste and a water bottle valet station was created to encourage racers to avoid water cups. Less than a ¼ of a bag of garbage was produced from the entire event!
